An Arlington, TX, woman has filed suit against an airport contractor after she was allegedly struck by a luggage transportation cart, causing luggage to fall onto her at the Galveston Baggage Claim Facility.

Jo Ann Young filed a complaint Aug. 2 in Galveston County District Court against Suderman Contracting Stevedores Inc., alleging negligence.

According to Young's complaint, the defendant owned and operated the transportation of luggage to the Galveston Terminal Baggage Claim Facility. She claims that on May 1, 2022, she was retrieving her luggage at the Galveston Baggage Claim Facility. Young alleges that an employee who was steering a loaded luggage cart collided into her and caused the luggage on the cart to topple onto her and caused her injuries.

She claims the defendant knew of the dangerous condition and failed to warn of the hazard. She also claims the defendant's employee did not keep a proper lookout and that they failed to exercise reasonable care to reduce or eliminate the risk. Young alleges the defendant also negligently failed to properly hire, train and supervise competent employees. She claims she has suffered impairment, lost wages and incurred medical treatment costs as a result of her injuries.

Young seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by David Kohm of David S. Kohm & Associates in Arlington, TX.
