A Harris County, TX, woman is suing a local sporting goods store for negligence, seeking damages after falling near the restrooms.

According to court discovery documents, Jacova Guzman Uraga filed a lawsuit Sept. 6 against Academy Sports and Outdoors, Inc. in the 281st District Court of Harris County.

The complaint stated Uraga was walking by the restrooms when she slipped on a wet surface and fell, suffering “severe injuries to her body.” The complaint added that there were no warning or caution signs near where the incident occurred, and that she was unaware of any hazard.

The complaint alleges Academy Sports and Outdoors failed to maintain its premises, including floor and walkways, in a reasonably safe condition; failed to inspect where the dangerous condition existed; failed to correct the condition by taking reasonable measures to safeguard persons who entered; and failed to inform the plaintiff of the dangerous condition.

Uraga is asking the court for damages for past and future medical expenses; pain, suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment; physical disfigurement; and lost wages and earning capacity. She also asks for interest, costs of court, and all other just relief.

The plaintiff is being represented by Gary Saunders of Daspit Law Firm in Houston.
