A Harris County resident has filed a lawsuit seeking damages for a traffic accident that occurred on June 16, 2024. John E. Kiker, the plaintiff, filed the complaint in Harris County Civil Court at Law No. 1 on June 21, 2024, against Emily Richardson and Laurel Richardson.
According to the court documents, the incident took place at around 3:40 PM at the intersection of Kingwood Drive and Green Oaks Drive in Kingwood, Texas. Kiker was stopped at a traffic light when Emily Richardson allegedly ran through a red light and collided with his vehicle. "When the light turned green Kiker proceeded to cross Kingwood Drive," reads the complaint. "Emily was on Kingwood Drive heading west toward State Highway 59. Emily ran through the red light at the intersection and her vehicle struck Kiker’s car."
The complaint further details that after the collision, Emily Richardson moved her vehicle into an adjacent parking lot where Kiker followed to exchange information. During this exchange, Ricardo Pena arrived as a witness to the accident. Less than an hour later, Emily reportedly contacted Kiker again, denying any liability for the damage and claiming she had a green light during the incident.
Kiker is also suing Laurel Richardson under claims of negligent entrustment since she is believed to be Emily's mother and registered owner of the vehicle involved in the accident. The lawsuit states that Laurel failed to ensure reasonable safety standards by allowing Emily to drive her car.
In his petition, Kiker seeks compensation for damages incurred due to what he describes as negligence on Emily's part. He requests actual damages sufficient to repair his vehicle along with pre-judgment and post-judgment interest, attorney’s fees, court costs, and any other relief deemed appropriate by law or equity.
