A Texas woman has filed a lawsuit against a major retail corporation, alleging negligence that led to her sustaining serious injuries. Pier Carter lodged the complaint in Harris County District Court on September 13, 2024, accusing Target Corporation of failing to maintain safe premises at one of its stores.

According to the petition, the incident occurred on May 25, 2024, when Carter was shopping at the Target store located at 6635 N. Grand Parkway West in Spring, Texas. While waiting in the checkout line, she slipped on water leaking from a nearby cooler and fell to the ground. The lawsuit claims there were no warning signs indicating the presence of water. "As a result of Defendant’s negligence and/or negligence per se, Plaintiff suffered severe and permanent injuries," states the complaint.

Carter asserts that as an invitee of Target Corporation, she had no knowledge of the dangerous condition and could not have reasonably been expected to discover it. She contends that Target either created or failed to correct this hazardous situation or failed to warn her about it. The plaintiff argues that this constitutes negligence on part of Target Corporation and that such negligence was a proximate cause of her injuries.

The lawsuit outlines several specific allegations against Target Corporation including failure to maintain safe walkways, failure to inspect and correct hazardous conditions, and failure to inform customers about such dangers. "Defendant is liable under the theory of premises liability and negligence based on their negligent conduct," reads another section of the petition.

Carter is seeking monetary relief exceeding $250,000 but less than $1 million for damages including past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment and disfigurement, lost wages, and loss of earning capacity. Additionally, she demands pre-judgment and post-judgment interest along with all court costs.

Representing Carter is Brad Stauber from Daspit Law Firm based in San Antonio. The case has been assigned Case ID 2024-62596 in Harris County's 234th Judicial District Court with Judge Bemita Barett presiding over it.
