A Houston woman has filed a lawsuit against a local restaurant group, alleging negligence after a slip-and-fall incident that resulted in severe injuries. Karla Roxana Fuentes filed the complaint in Harris County District Court on July 12, 2024, against China Star Restaurant Group, LLC.
According to the court documents, Fuentes was dining at one of China Star's locations in Houston on August 8, 2023. While approaching a buffet kiosk, she slipped on a Jello-like substance and fell, sustaining significant injuries to her right knee. The plaintiff asserts that the restaurant failed to maintain a safe environment for its patrons and neglected to address or warn about the hazardous condition.
The complaint details that China Star Restaurant Group had either actual or constructive knowledge of the dangerous condition but did not take corrective action in a timely manner. "The Defendant breached its duty to inspect its premises regularly and maintain a safe environment for invitees like my client," states the filing. Fuentes claims that this negligence led to her fall and subsequent injuries, which include permanent pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, loss of capacity for enjoyment of life, medical expenses, loss of earnings and employment opportunities.
Fuentes is seeking monetary relief exceeding $1 million. She argues that the defendant's failure to exercise reasonable care directly caused her injuries and associated losses. The lawsuit accuses China Star Restaurant Group of multiple breaches of duty including failing to correct known dangers and failing to warn patrons about them.
The plaintiff is represented by attorneys Chidi A. Oha and Carolyn Okorafor from Co & Co Attorneys at Law. The case has been assigned Case ID 2024-43789 and will be heard by Judge Gerardo Perez in the 269th District Court of Harris County.
