A Harris County resident has filed a lawsuit after a severe dog attack left her with significant injuries. Margaret Cormier lodged the complaint against Eldridge Guillory Sr. in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, on August 22, 2024.
According to the filing, Cormier alleges that on February 1, 2024, Guillory's two dogs were unrestrained and unsupervised when they chased and attacked her. The plaintiff asserts that she suffered major injuries while attempting to protect herself from what she describes as an unprovoked attack by the dogs. The complaint details multiple accusations of negligence against Guillory, including failing to keep his dogs restrained or secured within his property, not warning others about the potential danger posed by his dogs, and violating several local ordinances and state laws.
Cormier’s petition outlines specific instances of alleged negligence: "failing to keep the dog in question in the Defendant’s direct control or on a secure dog leash," "failing to close, latch, or lock the door and/or gate in which the dog was contained," and "failing to warn Plaintiff that the dog was dangerous." Furthermore, Cormier accuses Guillory of breaching sections of both Houston City Ordinances and Texas Health & Safety Code related to dangerous animals.
The plaintiff is seeking damages for physical injuries requiring medical treatment, pain and suffering both past and future, disfigurement, medical expenses incurred and anticipated, physical impairment, lost wages, and diminished earning capacity. Additionally, Cormier is requesting exemplary damages aimed at punishing Guillory for his conduct and deterring similar behavior in the future.
The case has been filed under Case ID 2024-55778 in the 269th Judicial District Court of Harris County. Representing Margaret Cormier is attorney Sarnie A. Randle Jr., from Randle & Associates P.C.
