A high-stakes legal battle has erupted in Texas, as a Houston businessman is taking on several international media outlets and individuals for allegedly orchestrating a defamatory campaign against him. Muhammad Tahir Javed filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, on November 15, 2024, accusing Asim Islamabad Insider-News, Samaa TV, Nation News Nipco, Daily Times, Friday Times, and various associated individuals of publishing false and damaging stories about him.
Javed's lawsuit details a series of allegations against the defendants that he claims have severely tarnished his reputation both personally and professionally. According to the complaint, Javed is a respected businessman and former political candidate who has never been convicted of any crime. However, he alleges that the defendants have engaged in a "libelous campaign with malice" to destroy his reputation by publishing fabricated news stories accusing him of serious crimes such as money laundering and tax evasion. These stories were allegedly circulated widely online through platforms like Google, Facebook, and Instagram.
The plaintiff argues that these false narratives have not only damaged his standing in his community but also caused significant financial harm. Javed claims that these defamatory articles led to his removal from a political position as an Assistant to the Interim Prime Minister of Pakistan. He asserts that the stories falsely reported he was involved in criminal activities linked to COVID-19 relief frauds and other financial misconducts. Javed emphasizes that there are no investigations or convictions against him for such crimes.
In response to these allegations, Javed is seeking damages exceeding $35 million for libel and libel per se malicious allegations made by the defendants. He argues that the reach of these publications has caused irreparable damage to his reputation among millions globally due to their presence on major internet platforms. The lawsuit demands not only monetary compensation but also punitive damages aimed at deterring similar conduct in the future.
Representing Muhammad Tahir Javed is attorney David P. Havins from The Havins Law Firm L.P., based in Bellaire, Texas. The case is being heard under Case ID 2024381005 by Judge Wanda Chambers in the 165th Judicial District Court of Harris County.
