Juan Pablo Roa has filed a lawsuit against Life Time, Inc., alleging negligence after suffering injuries at one of their fitness centers. The complaint was filed on January 3, 2025, in the District Court of Harris County, Texas. Roa's legal action highlights significant safety concerns and operational failures at the defendant's premises.

The incident in question occurred on June 27, 2023, when Juan Pablo Roa visited the Lifetime Fitness center located at Willow Chase Boulevard in Houston, Texas. As a paying customer and invitee of Life Time, Inc., Roa used a pull-down machine that malfunctioned due to a faulty cable. This equipment failure resulted in severe injuries to Roa's head as the cable broke apart violently during his exercise routine. The plaintiff asserts that Life Time, Inc.'s employees failed to address or warn about this hazardous condition despite having knowledge or should have had knowledge of it through ordinary care.

Roa accuses Life Time, Inc. of multiple counts of negligence including failing to maintain safe premises, not correcting known dangers such as the faulty cable, and inadequate training and supervision of staff responsible for maintenance and emergency response. The complaint emphasizes that these oversights directly led to Roa's injuries which required extensive medical treatment. Furthermore, Roa argues that Life Time’s negligence extends to their hiring practices and overall management of the fitness center.

In seeking justice from the court, Juan Pablo Roa requests monetary relief exceeding $250,000 but less than $1 million for damages incurred due to medical expenses, pain and suffering both past and future, mental anguish, disability, disfigurement, lost earnings among other claims. Additionally, he demands a jury trial to resolve these issues.

Representing Juan Pablo Roa are attorneys Andrew M. Bivona (State Bar No. 24092138), Asad S. Lakhani (State Bar No. 24132315), and Sean M. Patterson (State Bar No. 24073546) from Bivona Law PLLC based in Houston. The case is being presided over by the judicial district under Case ID: 2025-00473.
