A Harris County resident has taken legal action against a well-known local attraction, alleging negligence after suffering severe injuries on the job. On December 31, 2024, Ramiro Eduardo Lopez filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, against Houston Aquarium, Inc., and Landry’s, Inc. The lawsuit centers around an incident that occurred while Lopez was employed at the defendants' restaurant.
According to the petition, the unfortunate event took place on December 23, 2023. Lopez claims he was performing his duties when a spatula slipped into a fryer, causing hot oil to splatter onto his face and body. This incident resulted in serious and disfiguring burns for which he holds his employers accountable. At the time of the accident, Houston Aquarium and Landry’s were not subscribers to Texas Workers' Compensation insurance. The plaintiff accuses them of negligence for failing to provide a safe working environment. Specific allegations include "negligently permitting dangerous conditions to exist," failing to provide necessary safety equipment or adequate training, and neglecting regular inspections of the premises.
Lopez's complaint seeks monetary relief ranging from $250,000 to $1 million. He is pursuing compensation for past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, physical impairment and disfigurement, lost wages, and diminished earning capacity. Furthermore, Lopez demands a jury trial as part of his legal strategy.
The plaintiff is represented by attorneys Sarah Y-Nhi Huynh, Pavel “Paul” Savinov, and Michael Alvarez from Huynh Law PLLC. The case has been assigned Case ID 2024-89784 in the Judicial District Court No. 215 of Harris County.
