Lisa Barrera has filed a lawsuit against USA Volleyball, claiming negligence after suffering a severe finger injury at a volleyball tournament. The complaint was lodged in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, on January 24, 2025. Barrera accuses USA Volleyball of failing to implement adequate safety measures during an event held at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

According to the petition, Lisa Barrera was attending a volleyball game as a spectator on May 6, 2023, when she was struck by a volleyball, resulting in what she describes as "severe and permanent injury" to her finger. The plaintiff argues that USA Volleyball had a duty to ensure the safety of its invitees by establishing sufficient protective measures such as wider buffer zones or nets to prevent such accidents. Barrera claims that the defendant's failure to exercise ordinary care led directly to her injury.

Barrera’s lawsuit contends that USA Volleyball is liable for negligence because they operated the premises where the incident occurred and failed to mitigate foreseeable risks associated with flying volleyballs in spectator areas. She asserts that USA Volleyball should have been aware of these risks and taken steps to prevent injuries like hers. In her complaint, Barrera seeks monetary relief amounting to $250,000 or less for damages including physical pain, mental anguish, physical impairment and disfigurement, medical expenses incurred and anticipated future costs, as well as loss of earning capacity.

The plaintiff is represented by Kyle J. Moore from The Law Office of Kyle J. Moore PLLC. She requests not only compensation for her injuries but also court costs and interest both pre-judgment and post-judgment at the legal rate. The case has been assigned Case ID 2025-04955 and will be presided over in Harris County's 333rd Judicial District Court.
