Marvin Umanzor, a construction worker, has filed a lawsuit alleging negligence and premises liability against multiple defendants following a severe workplace accident. The complaint was filed by Umanzor on January 23, 2025, in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, naming Alex Pereyda, DRR Builders Inc., and Allied Custom Homes Inc. as defendants.

The case revolves around an incident that occurred in May 2023 when Umanzor was employed at a job site managed by the defendants for home remodeling tasks. According to the complaint, Umanzor was provided with inadequate tools and equipment for his work. Specifically, he was given a folding ladder to use on the roof of the first floor while working on the second floor of a house. The ladder slipped from its position, causing Umanzor to fall approximately twelve feet to the ground. This fall resulted in serious injuries including fractures in his arm and thirteen stitches on his knees, along with other permanent bodily injuries and mental anguish.

Umanzor's petition claims that these injuries were due to negligence on part of the defendants who failed to maintain safe working conditions and did not provide proper safety equipment or training. The plaintiff asserts that the defendants' actions directly led to unsafe conditions which caused his injuries. He further accuses them of failing to supervise properly and not enforcing adequate safety measures at the job site.

The lawsuit seeks monetary relief ranging from $250,000 to $1 million for damages such as past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, physical impairment and disfigurement, lost wages, and loss of earning capacity. Additionally, Umanzor demands a jury trial to resolve these claims.

Representing Marvin Umanzor are attorneys Sarah Y-Nhi Huynh, Pavel "Paul" Savinov, Michael Alvarez, Jay M. Taylor from Huynh Law PLLC; along with Hilda Leonor Sibrian from The Law Offices of Hilda L. Sibrian P.C. The case is filed under Case ID 2025-04459 in Harris County's 133rd Judicial District Court.
