In a gripping legal confrontation, two Texas residents have filed a lawsuit following a severe car accident that left them with significant injuries. On January 31, 2025, Brittana Ranae Lewis and Clifford Joe Matthews initiated legal proceedings against Li Medina Lopez in the District Court of Harris County, Texas. The plaintiffs allege that Lopez's negligence led to a vehicular collision on February 18, 2024, causing them substantial harm.
According to the complaint filed by Lewis and Matthews, both individuals were traveling in Harris County when they were involved in an accident allegedly caused by Lopez's failure to exercise due care while driving. The plaintiffs assert that Lopez's actions were negligent and reckless, citing multiple failures such as not maintaining a proper lookout, failing to yield appropriately, and not keeping a safe distance from their vehicle. They argue that these oversights directly resulted in the collision and their subsequent injuries.
The lawsuit details several accusations against Lopez. It claims she did not operate her vehicle as a person using ordinary prudent care would have done under similar circumstances. Specific allegations include operating at an excessive speed for the conditions and failing to apply brakes timely or effectively to prevent the crash. As per the plaintiffs' account, these actions breached her duty of care owed to other road users.
Lewis and Matthews are seeking monetary compensation for damages ranging from medical expenses incurred due to necessary treatments for their injuries to anticipated future medical costs. They also claim compensation for physical pain and suffering endured both past and future, loss of earnings and earning capacity, mental anguish experienced as a result of the incident, physical impairment affecting their quality of life, and property damage sustained during the accident.
Represented by KGS Law PLLC with attorneys including Brandon A. Kinard and Abraham Garcia among others, Lewis and Matthews are requesting that the court awards them over $250,000 but not more than $1 million in damages. They are also pursuing pre-judgment interest from the date of injury through judgment day at maximum rates allowed by law along with post-judgment interest at legal rates plus court costs.
This case is presided over by Judge Wanda Chambers under Case ID 2025-06693 in Harris County's 152nd Judicial District Court.
