In a legal battle that highlights the complexities of consumer rights and product warranties, a Texas resident has taken on a major automobile manufacturer over alleged defects in her vehicle. Xiaona Wang filed a complaint against Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC in the District Court of Harris County on March 7, 2025. The lawsuit accuses the carmaker of failing to honor its warranty obligations after she purchased a 2023 Mercedes-Benz truck that reportedly exhibited numerous mechanical issues.
According to the court documents, Wang bought the vehicle from an authorized dealer on March 25, 2023, for $69,000. She claims that soon after taking possession of the truck, it began to show multiple defects including problems with the electrical system, engine vibrations, and defective doors among others. Despite repeated attempts to have these issues resolved by Mercedes-Benz's authorized dealers, Wang alleges that the company failed to repair her vehicle within a reasonable timeframe. "Plaintiff justifiably lost confidence in the Truck’s safety and/or reliability," states the petition.
The plaintiff argues that these defects breach both written and implied warranties under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. This federal law is designed to protect consumers by ensuring manufacturers adhere to their warranty commitments. Wang's complaint outlines how Mercedes-Benz allegedly violated this act by not providing a merchantable product as promised in their warranty agreement.
Wang seeks monetary relief not exceeding $49,999 for actual damages such as loss of use and incidental costs related to renting substitute transportation. Additionally, she requests non-monetary relief for incurred repair costs and demands coverage for all reasonable attorneys' fees and court expenses associated with the case. The total amount sought does not surpass $250,000 inclusive of all damages and legal fees.
Representing Xiaona Wang is attorney John Barker from Krohn & Moss Ltd., a firm known for handling consumer protection cases. The case has been assigned Case ID 2025-15848 and will be heard in Harris County's 189th Judicial District Court.
