In a gripping legal battle that has emerged from the heart of Texas, a construction worker is taking on his former employer over severe injuries sustained on the job. Jose Luis Conde filed a complaint against Solid Bridge Construction, LLC in Harris County District Court on March 14, 2025. The lawsuit accuses Solid Bridge Construction of negligence leading to Conde's serious injuries at a Houston worksite.
The case revolves around an incident that occurred on June 12, 2024, at the Meyergrove Detention Basin project near North Braeswood in Houston. Conde alleges that while he was working under the direction and control of Solid Bridge Construction, he was severely injured when a suspended cement culvert crushed him as he attempted to adjust pipes in a trench. According to the complaint, Solid Bridge instructed Conde to enter the trench and also controlled the crane operator whose actions led to the accident. "Solid Bridge’s negligence, negligence per se, and/or gross negligence proximately caused the plaintiff's injuries," states the filing.
Conde's petition outlines multiple allegations against Solid Bridge Construction, including failing to safely plan work activities, instructing crane operations despite hazardous conditions, neglecting reasonable care in supervising work, and not implementing adequate safety policies. The lawsuit claims these actions constitute gross negligence as they involved "an extreme degree of risk" with awareness yet indifference towards potential harm. As such, Conde seeks damages for physical pain, impairment, mental anguish, lost wages and earning capacity alongside medical expenses incurred due to his injuries.
The plaintiff is pursuing exemplary damages citing wanton and willful conduct by Solid Bridge Construction that allegedly went beyond mere negligence. With claims exceeding $1 million in monetary relief within jurisdictional limits specified by Texas law (Rule 47), this case highlights significant workplace safety concerns within construction environments where heavy machinery and high-risk tasks are routine.
Represented by attorneys William S. Hart and Ben Bireley from Williams Hart & Boundas LLP based out of Houston, Texas; Jose Luis Conde demands justice through jury trial proceedings set forth under Cause No: 2025-17702 before Judge Patricia Jones presiding over Court Number Eleven within Harris County’s judicial system.
