While Texas’ battle to prohibit same-sex marriage continues to be waged in federal courts, a gay couple has opted not to wait on the final outcome, filing suit against the state on Thursday for denying health care coverage. Through Lambda Legal, Deborah Leliaert and Paula Woolworth filed suit against the board of trustees for the Employee Retirement System of Texas on June 11 in the U.S.

Hannah Francis, on behalf of daughter Brielle Rowan, a minor; and Larry Rowan, father of the deceased, of Smith County, brought suit Jan. 16 against Smith County in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas. Woman faults driver in rear-end collision impacting multiple vehicles

An Orange County resident filed suit against a Jefferson County man, alleging vehicular negligence in a 2015 car crash that affected up to five vehicles. Julie Ann Michelle Parker filed a complaint against Damien Castle in Jefferson County District Court June 3, claiming liability in a May 2015 collision on a Beaumont highway.

Joe’s Crab Shack settles securities suit for $1.8M, attorneys reap $900K

By DAVID YATES In January, the owners of Joe’s Crab Shack and several other popular restaurant chains reached a $1.8 million settlement in a federal securities class action lawsuit. On Friday, June 5, District Judge Vanessa Gilmore signed an order approving the settlement, awarding the plaintiffs’ attorneys in the case $600,000 from the settlement fund, plus $304,009.77 in expenses.

Car owner sues woman who rear-ended his daughter

A Harris County father filed a lawsuit against a League City woman alleging vehicular negligence in a 2015 accident that damaged his car and hurt his daughter. Ty Holland filed individually and as next friend to Jady Holland against Kaitlyn Clute in Galveston County District Court June 9, claiming liability in a May 2015 motor vehicle collision. According to the suit, Clute’s negligence caused damages to a 2003 Hyundai Elantra driven by Jady Holland and owned by Ty Holland.
