Worker blames industrial accident for severed thumb

A Galveston County man has sued two companies and and an individual, alleging negligence in a workplace accident.

Jose Bonilla filed a lawsuit Feb. 3 in Jefferson County District Court against NRG Texas Power, NRG Energy Inc., and Vincent Persicano of Spring, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Bonilla was employed by Fluor Maintenance at a generating station owned by the defendants in Jewett when on March 19, 2014, a pulley supporting a 300-pound basket fell on Bonilla's hand, severing his thumb.

The suits says the defendants were negligent in failing to inspect and maintain a safe work site warn the plaintiff of dangerous conditions and properly train other employees. The defendants exhibited malice or gross negligence, the suit says.

Bonilla seeks: punitive and exemplary damages for medical expenses; compensation for lost earnings, physical and mental duress; attorney fees; expenses; and costs.
