The wife and family of the late Daryl Stukey, who had worked at area refineries since 1946, have filed an asbestos suit against 21 companies, alleging the defendants inflicted Stukey with lung cancer.
Representing Stukey's estate, Doris Stukey filed the suit March 24 in Jefferson County District Court.
The defendants named in the suit include Able Supply, Alstom Power, AMF, CBS, Certainteed, Crown Cork & Seal, Deltak, Foster wheeler Energy, General Electric, Georgia-Pacific, Goulds Pumps, Goulds Pump Texas, Guard-Line, Henry Vogt Machine, Ingersoll-Rand, Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing, Owens-Illinois, Riley Power, Triplex, Union Carbide and Zurn Industries.
Court records allege Stukey was first exposed to asbestos while working for DuPont de Nemours from 1946 to the 1970s.
"Stukey died on April 12, 2009, from a ... painful asbestos-caused disease known as lung cancer," the suit states.
The plaintiffs allege the defendants knew of the dangers associated with their asbestos products, but conspired to manufacture and distribute asbestos products without warning workers, such as Stukey.
The plaintiffs are seeking all wrongful death damages allowable under law.
They are represents by Beaumont attorney Tina Bradley of Hobson & Bradley.
Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
