Area resident Martha Alaniz is suing Newton resident Amanda Carter for allegedly failing to yield the right of way at a stop sign and causing an automobile collision.

The suit was filed Jan. 11 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Oct. 11 Alaniz was stopped at a stop sign at 10th Street when Carter failed to yield the right of way and struck another vehicle, causing both vehicles to collide with Alaniz's.

The suit further accuses Carter of negligently failing to keep a proper lookout.

The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Beaumont attorney Trenton Bond of Portner Bond represents her.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
