A Friendswood woman is suing her former employer over claims she was unlawfully terminated from her position.

Josephine Massie filed a lawsuit April 8 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Memorial Hermann Health System, doing business as Memorial Hermann Hospital System, citing discrimination.

Massie claims she began working for the defendant on June 26, 1991, and in 2007 they hired Israel Gracia who became Massie's supervisor.

The suit alleges Gracia started to harass Massie and treated her differently from the younger employees. Massie claims she was told she was too old and should retire.

According to the brief, Massie was demoted after requesting time off and asking for a promotion.

Massie is seeking damages, back pay of salary and benefits, attorney's fees, interest and court costs.

She is being represented in the case by Houston attorneys Mark G. Lazarz and Daryl J. Sinkule of Shellist Lazarz Slobin LLP.
