Galveston Couny man accused of driving into oncoming traffic, causing crash

A Seabrook couple is suing a Galveston County man they allege crossed into oncoming traffic and caused a crash.

Jimmy Chandler and Mary Lou Chandler filed a lawsuit against Samuel Cabrera Fonseca on Sept. 2 in Galveston County District Court.

The alleged crash happened on April 21 in the 2400 block of FM 2004. According to the complaint, Jimmy Chandler was driving south on FM 2004 and Fonseca was driving north when "suddenly and without warning," the defendant entered Chandler's lane of travel and collided with his vehicle.

Jimmy Chandler and his wife Mary Lou accuse Fonseca of negligence and gross negligence for his "carelessness and disregard of duty to exercise reasonable care to others." They contend Jimmy was seriously injured as a result of Fonseca's "more than momentary thoughtlessness, inadvertence and error of judgement."

The Chandlers ask to be awarded an unspecified amount of money for mental anguish, physical impairment, loss of consortium and loss of household services. They also seek exemplary damages.

Attorney Kenneth D. McConnico, of Houston, represents the Chandlers. They request a jury trial.
