BEAUMONT – A local woman is suing Advance Auto Parts for injuries she allegedly received after lifting a box of batteries.

Seeking up to $1 million in damages, Deborah Bailey filed her suit on Aug. 30 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on July 12 Bailey was training at Advance Auto when an employee asked her to lift a box of batteries weighing around 50 pounds.

“Plaintiff began to lift the box and felt an immediate onset of pain,” the suit states. “Plaintiff was not notified of safety procedures … until after the incident occurred.”

Jackson accuses Advance Auto of negligently failing to provide a safe workplace.

She is suing for her past and future medical expenses, loss of earnings, impairment, pain, mental anguish and disfigurement.

The Daspit Law Firm in Houston represents her.

Judge Baylor Wortham, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. D-204452
