HOUSTON – A man who fell 20 feet while working at a Occidental Petroleum drilling site is claiming the company was negligent.

Augustine Carrasco filed a complaint Dec. 17 in the Harris County District Court against Occidental Petroleum Corporation, OXY USA Inc., Occidental Oil and Gas Corporation, OXY Inc., and Butch's Rathole & Anchor Service Inc., alleging negligence.

Carrasco was working on a land rig at the defendant's drilling site on Feb. 24, 2019, when he fell about 20 feet and fractured ribs, an arm and a leg, which required surgery. He claims in his suit that the defendants failed to train and properly supervise employees and contractors and failed to provide proper safety equipment. He also claimed the defendants failed to provide proper tools and medical treatment.

Carrasco seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Jason Itkin, Ryan MacLeod and Jacob Karam of Arnold & Itkin LLP in Houston.
