HOUSTON — A man who was injured when an elevator at the Marriott Marquis in Houston free-fell and abruptly stopped is claiming the negligence of the hotel chain and the elevator company.
Barry Vines filed a complaint Jan. 30 in the Harris County District Court against Marriott International Inc., Houston Convention Center Hotel LLC, Rida Development Corp., Otis Elevator Company and others alleging negligence and liability.
According to the complaint, Vines was at the Marriott Marquis in Houston on Feb. 6, 2018. He alleges that the elevator he was riding on suddenly "malfunctioned and free-fell" and came to an abrupt stop which caused him to suffer injuries. Vines claims the elevator was defective and that Marriott had a duty to keep their premises in a safe condition.
Vines seeks monetary relief, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Kevin Edwards and Peter de la Cerda of Edwards & de la Cerda PLLC in Dallas and Nathan VanDerVeer and Dennis Goldasich of Goldasich, Vick & Fulk in Birmingham.
