BEAUMONT – A trial of an automobile collision lawsuit recently ended with a jury awarding the plaintiff more than $29,500 in damages.

Seeking up to $200,000 in damages, Dale Schroeder filed suit against Jeremy Norsworthy on March 18, 2019 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on July 16, 2018, the plaintiff was traveling west on Sulphur Avenue in Calcasieu Parish in Louisiana when the defendant proceeded into an intersection and struck the plaintiff from behind.

The suit states the collision occurred because of the recklessness and carelessness of the defendant.

The case was called up for trial in late last month. On Feb. 21, a charge of the court was filed, showing that the jury found both parties negligent in causing the collision, assigning 90 percent of the blame to the defendant.

The jury awarded the plaintiff $9,000 for his past and future mental anguish, $2,500 for his past and future impairment, $4,000 for past lost wages, and $14,006.42 for his past medical expenses.

No damages were awarded for future medical expenses.

The plaintiff is represented by the Reaud, Morgan & Quinn law firm in Beaumont.

Judge Mitch Templeton, 172nd District Court, presided over the trial.
