GALVESTON — A woman is claiming her knee was sliced opened after she tripped and landed on a sharp object sticking out of the ground at a Galveston gas station.

Adriana Barajas filed a complaint March 5 in the Galveston County District Court against Southwest Universal Inc., and Southwest Universal Inc., doing business as Unique Food Mart alleging negligence.

Barajas was at a gas station in Galveston owned and operated by the defendants on Aug. 4, 2018. She alleges that she tripped, fell and landed on "a sharp object" that was protruding from the ground. Barajas suffered a large cut to her knee. She claims the defendants failed to correct, repair or warn of the dangerous condition on their premises.

Barajas seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Carlos Hughes, Jr., of The Hughes Law Firm in Houston.
