HOUSTON - While in the dark, Alex Lazar stuck his hand into his washer machine while it was still on spin cycle, causing him “serious injuries” two years ago.
On June 7, Lazar filed suit against Sears and several other companies, seeking more than $1 million in damages for his alleged injuries.
According to the lawsuit, on June 9, 2018 Lazar was using his Kenmore Front Load Washer.
“Specifically, it was dark when Plaintiff (Lazar) went to open the washer door, believing the washer cycle was complete,” the suit states. “Plaintiff then opened the washer door and inserted his arm.”
In his suit, Lazar says he was able to open the door to the washer while it was still in spin cycle because the locking system on the washer was “defective and unsafe for its intended purpose.”
Lazar maintains that no negligence on his part contributed to the incident.
He contends the defendants negligently failed to warn him of the dangerous condition of the locking system.
Lazar asserts the defendants acted with gross negligence and proceeded with conscious indifference to the rights and safety of others, entitling him to exemplary damages.
Houston attorney Jared Woodfill represents him.
The other defendants named in the suit include Electrolux Home Products, Illinois Tool Works, KCD IP and ITW Ark-Les Corp.
Filed in Harris County District Court, case No. 2020-33981.
