DALLAS – The group Save James is reporting the father of James Younger is appealing a ruling ordering family counseling that could cost as much as $5,000 a month.
The custody battle of James Younger gained national notoriety last year. The child’s mother, Anne Georgulas, believes James identifies as a girl named Luna and sought to have him medically transitioned at the age of 7.
The child’s father, Jeff Younger, petitioned a Texas court for sole custody to keep that from happening.
The controversial dispute reached as high as the Governor’s Office and the matter was looked into by the Attorney General’s Office.
The child’s parents were awarded joint custody – making it so both parents would have to consent to any transition procedures.
According to the group Save James, Jeff Younger has filed for a writ of mandamus in the Fifth Court of Appeals, seeking to void a court ordered counseling program that would cost $5,000 a month.
On appeal, Jeff Younger is questioning whether the trial court abused its discretion.
Save James is reporting the court-appointed counselors charge $250 an hour.
