HOUSTON — A woman alleges she suffered an infection and excessive bleeding after her C-Section due to the negligence of Memorial Hermann Hospital physicians.

Stacey Booker filed a complaint March 18 in Harris County District Court against Memorial Hermann Healthcare System doing business as Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center, the University of Texas Health Science Center doing business as UT Physicians, Gregory Opara, M.D., and John Riggs, M.D., alleging negligence.

Booker underwent a procedure for the placement of cerclage in her cervix on November 18, 2018, to prevent preterm labor, according to her suit. She alleges that on March 18, 2019, she had severe pre-eclampsia and required a cesarean section peformed by Riggs who was negligent in failing to remove the cerclage during her procedure.

Booker claims when asked about the removal of the cerclage, the defendants falsely confirmed the device had been removed.

She further claims that the failure to remove the cerclage caused her to develop a bacterial infection and "significant abnormal bleeding."

Booker alleges that on April. 9, 2019, she required an "immediate emergency" procedure and had to leave her newborn son for several days as well as endure bleeding for several more weeks and required antibiotic treatment.

Booker seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury. and all other just relief. She is represented by Troy Pradia of The Cox Pradia Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
