HOUSTON — A University of Texas Health Science physician is facing a medical negligence claim after leaving part of a tumor in a patient.

Martha Moreno filed a complaint  Aug. 3 in Harris County District Court against University of Texas Health Science at Houston alleging liability.

According to her complaint, Moreno received a CT scan in May of 2018 that showed she had a "skull base meningioma with osseous involvement." She claims that she met with Dr. Dong Kim in March of 2019, who recommended surgery to remove the meningioma. Moreno alleges that Kim reassured her the entire meningioma would be removed and that the deformity in her eye that developed due to the meningioma would subside.

She claims that she underwent surgery performed by Kim on June 27, 2019, and that postoperative MRIs showed Kim did not completely remove the tumor which caused her symptoms to worsen and to require a second surgery to remove the remaining 10 percent of the tumor. She claims the defendant breached the standard of care which caused her to suffer impairment, disability, disfigurement, lost earnings and to incur medical expenses.

Moreno seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Craig Lewis of The Lewis Law Firm in Houston.
