HOUSTON — A security guard alleges he slipped on a substance leaking from an AC unit while on duty at The Westin Galleria Houston.
Jerry Corbett filed a complaint July 5 in Harris County District Court against Marriott International Inc., doing business as The Westin Galleria Houston, alleging negligence.
Corbett, according to his complaint, was employed by Marriott International as a security guard and was working at The Westin Galleria Houston on Aug. 29, 2021. He claims that as he was walking down a hallway, he suddenly slipped on clear liquid that was leaking from an AC unit which caused his body to be "slammed on the hard floor."
Corbett alleges Marriott's negligence for failing to maintain the grounds in a safe condition and free from hazards. He also alleges Marriott failed to inspect the premises or train its employees regarding keeping the premises safe. Corbett claims Marriott knew or reasonably should have known the danger the leaking AC unit caused and failed to rectify the dangerous condition.
Corbett seeks monetary relief of $250,000 or less, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by M. Cristina Gonzalez and Tej Paranjpe of Parnajpe Mahadass Ruemke LLP in Houston.
