In a lawsuit filed on March 21, 2024, in the District Courts for Harris County, Texas (case ID: 2024-1 81 87), Cokebusters USA Inc. is suing its former employee Matthew Hanks. The plaintiff alleges that Hanks breached his non-compete obligations under a contract he signed in 2019.

Hanks was previously employed by Cokebusters as its top salesperson and had access to all of the company's sales and marketing efforts, customer lists, business plans, and pricing strategies. He quit his job without notice on March 1, 2024, and appears to have become employed by a key competitor of Cokebusters. The defendant's employment with a competitor violates his non-compete obligations.

The plaintiff is seeking less than $250,000 in monetary relief, non-monetary relief plus attorney’s fees, and costs. They are also asking the court to temporarily restrain Hanks’ competitive activities pending a temporary injunction hearing.
