A shocking case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced involving a senior living facility accused of failing to provide adequate care, resulting in severe injuries to an elderly resident. On June 28, 2024, Angeline H. Patterson filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County against TCG Katy AL, LLC d/b/a Caydance Assisted Living & Memory Care and Sagora Senior Living, Inc.

According to the court documents, Betty C. Harris, who was admitted to Caydance Assisted Living & Memory Care on June 30, 2022, suffered from multiple chronic conditions that left her unable to care for herself. Her daughter and legal representative, Angeline H. Patterson, claims that the facility's staff failed to monitor Ms. Harris adequately or implement necessary measures to prevent her from developing pressure ulcers and infections. By September 2022, Ms. Harris had developed a severe stage 4 pressure ulcer on her coccyx that became infected and led to osteomyelitis—a life-threatening bone infection.

The lawsuit alleges that due to understaffing and lack of proper care at Caydance Assisted Living & Memory Care, Ms. Harris's condition deteriorated significantly. She was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital in mid-December 2022 in critical condition and underwent extensive medical treatment for her wounds over several months across multiple facilities. Despite these efforts, Ms. Harris continues to suffer from severe injuries and impairments.

Patterson accuses TCG Katy AL, LLC and Sagora Senior Living, Inc., of multiple counts of negligence including failure to properly monitor Ms. Harris’s skin integrity and hydration levels, failure to treat her pressure ulcers effectively, and failure to ensure she received adequate nutrition. The plaintiff is seeking monetary relief exceeding $1 million for past and future physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical disfigurement and impairment as well as reasonable medical expenses.

The case has been assigned Case ID 2024-41383 in the 125th Judicial District Court with Marilyn Burgess serving as the District Clerk for Harris County. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Patrick W. Powers from Powers Taylor LLP.
