In a compelling legal case filed on October 2, 2024, an individual alleges serious negligence against a well-known fitness company. Ahmed Olayiwola has brought forth a lawsuit in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, accusing Fitness International, LLC, operating as LA Fitness, along with its associated entities, of failing to maintain safe premises and equipment which resulted in his severe injury.

The complaint outlines that on December 11, 2023, while at an LA Fitness location in Houston, Texas, Olayiwola suffered significant injuries when a gym equipment malfunctioned. According to the filing by Olayiwola's attorneys from Gallo Uwalaka Personal Injury Attorneys PLLC, the incident occurred when "the equipment rope holding the weights snapped," causing a heavy weight to fall onto his head. The plaintiff asserts that this was due to negligent maintenance and inspection of the gym's facilities by Fitness International and its affiliates.

Olayiwola's petition accuses the defendants of several acts of negligence including failing to provide a safe environment for exercise and neglecting proper inspection and maintenance protocols. He argues that these oversights led directly to his injuries which have caused him ongoing physical pain and disability. The suit highlights that "Defendants negligently allowed [the dangerous condition] to persist without correcting it or adequately warning the public," thereby breaching their duty of care owed to patrons like Olayiwola.

The plaintiff is seeking monetary compensation for damages exceeding $250,000 but not more than $1 million. This amount aims to cover past and future medical expenses, loss of earnings capacity due to his injuries, as well as physical impairment and disfigurement suffered from the incident. Additionally, Olayiwola requests a jury trial to address these grievances formally in court.

Representing Ahmed Olayiwola are attorneys Jessica Akiode and Adamma Uwalaka from Gallo Uwalaka Personal Injury Attorneys PLLC. The case is presided over by Judge Jonathan Vela under Case ID 2024-67954 in the 113th Judicial District Court of Harris County.
