Martha Camacho has taken legal action against an individual in Harris County, Texas, after a devastating car accident that left her with severe injuries. On November 15, 2024, Camacho filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County against Gregorio De Anda, alleging negligence and seeking damages exceeding $10 million.
The case stems from an incident on September 11, 2024, when Gregorio De Anda allegedly failed to control his speed and crashed into the back of Martha Camacho's vehicle. The collision resulted in significant bodily harm to Camacho. According to the plaintiff's petition, nothing she did contributed to the accident; rather, it was De Anda's actions and omissions that led to her injuries. The petition outlines several specific accusations of negligence against De Anda: failing to maintain a proper lookout, improper use of brakes, excessive speed under prevailing conditions, inattentiveness while driving, reckless operation of his vehicle, and possibly operating under the influence.
Camacho asserts that these negligent actions were the direct cause of her injuries and are grounds for holding De Anda liable. She further claims that De Anda acted with gross negligence and malice—a level of misconduct justifying punitive damages according to Texas law. As a result of the crash, Camacho is facing severe medical procedures including anterior cervical decompression and fusion surgeries at multiple spinal levels. Her petition details ongoing medical expenses as well as enduring pain and suffering which have affected her quality of life and earning capacity.
In her plea for relief from the court, Martha Camacho seeks not only compensatory damages for her physical injuries but also punitive damages aimed at punishing De Anda for his alleged recklessness. Additionally, she requests pre-judgment and post-judgment interest as per Texas law along with coverage for court costs and attorney fees.
Representing Martha Camacho are attorneys Vuk S. Vujasinovic and Job Tennant from VB Attorneys based in Houston. The case is being presided over by Judge Tayler Hateher in Court 281 under Case ID 2024-80902.
