Virginia Breland has filed a lawsuit against two companies, alleging negligence and premises liability after suffering severe injuries from a fall. The complaint was lodged by Virginia Breland in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, on January 31, 2025, targeting Reis Associates LLC and Rice Management Company as defendants.
The incident at the heart of this legal battle occurred on April 20, 2023, when Breland visited Rice Village in Houston, Texas. While traversing the premises, she experienced a fall that resulted in extensive injuries. According to the petition, Breland was an invitee at the time of her accident—an individual who had been invited onto the property for mutual benefit—and thus claims that the defendants owed her a duty to maintain a safe environment. The plaintiff accuses Reis Associates LLC and Rice Management Company of failing to inspect and secure their premises adequately. "Defendants breached their duty of care by failing to make the dangerous condition reasonably safe," asserts Breland's legal team.
Breland's allegations are built upon two main causes: premises liability and negligence. She contends that the defendants were aware or should have been aware of hazardous conditions on their property due to prior incidents or warnings from other customers. Despite this knowledge, they allegedly neglected to take appropriate measures to rectify these dangers or provide adequate warnings to visitors like Breland. As a result of this purported negligence, Breland sustained significant physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, disfigurement, loss of wages, and diminished earning capacity.
In seeking justice through this lawsuit, Virginia Breland demands comprehensive compensation for her damages. Her petition requests actual damages exceeding $1 million alongside pre-judgment interest and punitive damages as allowed by law. Furthermore, she seeks reimbursement for court costs and any additional relief deemed justifiable by the court.
Representing Virginia Breland is attorney Jeffrey N. Todd from The Todd Law Group PLLC based in Houston. The case is presided over by Judge Carly Mitchell under Case ID 2025-07111 in Harris County's 165th District Court.
