Brooke Crawford has filed a lawsuit against a debt collection agency, alleging violations of Texas state laws concerning debt collection and consumer protection. The complaint was lodged in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, on March 13, 2025, with AmSher Collection Services, Inc. named as the defendant.

The case revolves around allegations that AmSher Collection Services engaged in unlawful debt collection practices. According to the complaint, Brooke Crawford claims that in December 2024, AmSher reported an alleged debt on her consumer credit report without providing the necessary written notice within five days of their initial communication. This act is said to be in violation of Tex. Fin. Code § 392.202. Furthermore, Crawford accuses AmSher of misrepresenting the character, amount, or legal status of the alleged debt, which contravenes Tex. Fin. Code § 392.304(a)(8). Despite disputing the validity of this debt, Crawford asserts that AmSher failed to investigate and correct inaccurate reporting as required by law.

The plaintiff also contends that AmSher engaged in harassing and abusive collection practices by attempting to collect a disputed and legally unverified debt. These actions are purportedly in violation of Tex. Fin. Code § 392.301(a)(8). As a result of these alleged violations, Crawford claims damage to her creditworthiness and emotional well-being.

Crawford's petition outlines several causes of action against AmSher Collection Services under both the Texas Debt Collection Act (TDCA) and the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA). She alleges that AmSher's deceptive practices violate Tex. Bus. & Com. Code § 17.46(b)(24), which prohibits false or misleading acts in trade or commerce.

In terms of relief sought from the court, Brooke Crawford is asking for actual damages to be determined at trial, statutory damages under Tex. Fin. Code § 392.403 for each violation committed by AmSher, and treble damages under the DTPA for what she describes as knowing and intentional misconduct by the defendant. Additionally, she seeks pre- and post-judgment interest as allowed by law along with attorneys' fees and court costs.

The case is identified with Case ID: 2025-17351 and is being presided over by a judge at the District Court of Harris County, Texas.
