A slip-and-fall incident at a local grocery store has escalated into a legal battle, as a Texas resident seeks justice for injuries sustained on the premises. On April 4, 2025, Sonia Mayorga filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County against Lewis Food Town, Inc., alleging negligence and premises liability following an accident that occurred in February 2024.
The case centers around an incident on February 25, 2024, when Mayorga visited the Food Town store located at 1420 Cypress Creek Parkway in Houston, Texas. While shopping in the produce area, she slipped on a liquid substance due to what she claims was an inadequately maintained floor. The lawsuit asserts that the floor was not slip-resistant and lacked proper maintenance or warning signs about potential hazards. As a result of her fall, Mayorga suffered serious bodily injuries.
In her petition, Mayorga accuses Lewis Food Town of several acts of negligence. These include allowing dangerous conditions to persist on their premises, failing to keep the floor free from slippery substances and debris, neglecting to inspect the area for such hazards, and not providing adequate warnings about these risks. The plaintiff argues that these failures breached the duty of care owed to her as an invitee and were directly responsible for her injuries.
Mayorga is seeking monetary relief ranging from $250,000 to less than $1 million. This sum includes compensation for past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, physical impairment and disfigurement, lost wages, and other damages permitted by law. She also demands pre-judgment interest and post-judgment interest as part of her claim.
Represented by attorneys Sarah Huynh, Pavel "Paul" Savinov, Michael Alvarez from The Huynh Law Firm PLLC., along with Hilda Leonor Sibrian from The Law Offices of Hilda L. Sibrian P.C., Mayorga has requested a jury trial to resolve this matter. The case is presided over by Judge Christopher Matthews under Case ID 2025-23291 in the 334th Judicial District Court.
