HOUSTON — A Houston area nursing and rehab facility is being accused of neglect that led to a patient's malnutrition, infection, pressure injuries and death.

Deborah Louis, individually and on behalf of the Estate of John Louis, filed a complaint Dec. 10 in Harris County District Court against Wallsville Healthcare Inc., doing business as East View Healthcare, Liberty County Hospital District No. 1 alleging medical negligence.

John Louis became a resident at Legend Oaks in October of 2018, according to the complaint. The plaintiff alleges that while at Legend Oaks, John Louis suffered from malnutrition, dehydration, pressure sores and deep tissue injuries.

She further alleges that John Louis had to be hospitalized in November and December of 2018, and was found to have malnutrition, skin sores and infection.

The plaintiff also alleges that John Louis was hospitalized again in December of 2018 for pressure injuries and malnutrition, and in February of 2019, was admitted to the hospital for pressure injuries and staphylococcus.

The plaintiff claims Louis' death on Feb. 19, 2019, was a result of his injuries. She claims the defendants failed to have adequate, supervised and trained staffing and no care plan for Louis.

The plaintiff seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Kevin Cox and William Barfield of McDonald Worley PC in Houston.
