Certain Underwriters subscribing to policy 2021-9003471-01, as subrogee of GHC Woodtrail, LP, has filed a lawsuit against Joy Bryant in the District Court of Harris County, Texas. The case, bearing the ID 2024-23716 and filed on April 12, 2024, accuses Bryant of causing significant damage due to a fire at an apartment complex.

The plaintiff's counsel states that the fire originated from Bryant's apartment in the Woodtrail Apartment Complex located at 9900 Richmond Avenue in Houston, Texas. According to law enforcement and independent investigations, Bryant's misuse of electrical cords and extension cords resulted in the fire on June 20, 2022.

The incident led to substantial property damage and loss of income for GHC Woodtrail, LP. In addition to Bryant's unit, several other units within the complex were affected by the fire. Despite being asked to cover the damages as per their lease agreement, Bryant has reportedly failed to comply.

The plaintiff is seeking monetary relief exceeding $1 million for the damages incurred due to Bryant's alleged negligence. The lawsuit asserts that this amount surpasses the minimum jurisdictional requirements of the court.
