A Louisiana resident has filed a lawsuit against a Texas-based petroleum company over an alleged workplace injury. On July 25, 2024, Jerry Liner filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, against Texas Petroleum Investment Company (TPIC).

According to the complaint, Liner was employed by Quality Process Services, L.L.C. and was working on TPIC's Main Pass 69G Offshore Platform on December 23, 2023. The platform operations involved the use of large compressors. Liner claims he was instructed by TPIC to switch compression from one compressor to another when he slipped on mechanical liquid spilled by TPIC’s employees or agents. He alleges that TPIC failed to notify anyone or place any warnings about the spill, which led to his serious injuries.

The plaintiff accuses TPIC of negligence for failing to inspect and make safe any dangerous conditions on the platform, including the spilled fluid. The complaint states that TPIC did not provide adequate warnings or take necessary precautions to prevent such hazards. “Defendant never should have spilled this fluid and Defendant knew or should have known of the dangerous condition on their Platform,” reads the petition.

Liner is seeking more than $1 million in damages for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages, and loss of earning capacity. Additionally, he seeks exemplary damages due to what he describes as gross negligence on the part of TPIC.

The case is being handled by attorneys C.J. Baker and Adam M. Grable from Armstrong Lee & Baker LLP. It has been assigned Case ID 2024-46895 in the 133rd District Court of Harris County with Judge Berita Barrett presiding.
