A Harris County woman has filed a lawsuit against a local retail store, alleging severe injuries due to negligence. Plaintiff Dora Camarillo lodged the complaint against Trudy’s Hallmark Shop in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, on August 21, 2024.
According to the court documents, Camarillo was shopping at Trudy’s Hallmark Shop located at 11200 Broad St. 610 in Pearland, Texas, on June 1, 2023. While examining a purse, a heavy glass shelf unexpectedly fell onto her foot, causing significant injuries. The plaintiff claims that the store failed to ensure the safety of its premises and neglected necessary inspections that could have prevented such an incident.
The lawsuit asserts that Trudy’s Hallmark Shop had a duty to maintain safe conditions for its customers and failed in this responsibility. "Defendant knew or should have known of the unreasonably dangerous condition and that it posed an unreasonable risk of injury," states the complaint. It further accuses the store of multiple counts of negligence including failure to provide reasonable security measures, failure to inspect and correct dangerous conditions, and failure to inform customers about potential hazards.
Camarillo's legal team argues that these lapses directly led to her injuries and subsequent suffering. She is seeking monetary relief ranging from $250,000 to $1 million for past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment and disfigurement, as well as loss of earning capacity.
Represented by attorney Jesus A. Salinas from Daspit Law Firm based in Houston, Texas, Camarillo requests that the court issue a citation requiring Trudy’s Hallmark Shop to respond to these allegations. The case has been assigned Case ID 2024-55313 and will be presided over by Judge Jarod Stirup in the 165th Judicial District Court.
