A Texas resident has taken legal action against a local restaurant, alleging negligence after suffering injuries on their premises. Maria Sauceda filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, on February 20, 2025, against DJ Bistro, LLC, doing business as Hu’s Cooking.

The case stems from an incident that occurred on August 8, 2023. According to the petition filed by Sauceda's attorney Chukwudi Egbuonu, Sauceda was an invitee at Hu’s Cooking located at 2502 Holcombe Blvd., Houston. During her visit, she claims that while using the restroom facilities, a sink fell onto her foot causing her to fall and sustain serious injuries. The plaintiff alleges that the restaurant negligently allowed a hazardous condition to persist and failed to provide adequate warnings or take necessary measures to ensure safety. "Defendant had actual or constructive knowledge of the danger," states the petition.

Sauceda accuses DJ Bistro of several counts including negligence and premises liability. The lawsuit asserts that the defendant breached its duty by failing to maintain safe conditions and adequately warn patrons of potential dangers. The petition further contends that such negligence directly resulted in Sauceda's injuries. Additionally, it argues for piercing any corporate veils if necessary to hold responsible parties accountable beyond just the corporation itself.

The plaintiff is seeking damages exceeding $1 million for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, disfigurement, mental anguish among other compensations. Furthermore, she requests exemplary damages citing gross negligence on part of the defendant which involved "an extreme degree of risk" and conscious indifference towards others' safety.

Representing Maria Sauceda is attorney Chukwudi Egbuonu from Law Office Of Chukwudi Egbuonu based in Houston. The case has been assigned to Judge Nelson Cuero under Case ID 2025-11877 in the 152nd Judicial District Court of Harris County.
