A Houston resident has filed a lawsuit against a bus driver, alleging negligence that led to a serious collision. On February 28, 2025, Antianete Thomas filed the complaint in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, against Monica Brooks.

The incident in question occurred on August 9, 2023, when Antianete Thomas was a passenger on a bus operated by Monica Brooks. According to the petition, Brooks was driving recklessly and failed to control the speed of the bus, resulting in a collision with another vehicle. The plaintiff claims that Brooks's inattention and careless operation were direct causes of the accident. "Defendant Brooks failed to exercise that degree of care and caution which would have been exercised by a person of ordinary prudence," states the petition. Thomas accuses Brooks of violating several traffic laws, including driving at an unsafe speed and failing to maintain proper control of her vehicle.

Thomas seeks monetary relief exceeding $250,000 but not more than $1 million for damages incurred due to the accident. These damages include past and future medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment, disfigurement, lost wages and earning capacity, loss of enjoyment of life and social activities, as well as pre-judgment and post-judgment interest. The petition argues that as a common carrier driver, Brooks had an elevated duty of care towards her passengers—a duty she allegedly breached during this incident.

The case is being handled by attorneys Carlos Lopez (SB#24083414), M. Kevin Queenan (SB#16427150), and Charles D. Hernandez (SB#24138485) from Queenan Law Firm P.C., located in Houston. The case ID is 2025-13797 and it is assigned to the 295th Judicial District Court under Judge Jarod Stirrup.
