On Nov. 11 Beaumont attorney Dana Timaeus announced his candidacy for the 136th District Court while addressing a crowd gathered in front of the Jefferson County courthouse.
Ninth District appellate judges have stopped a defamation suit that Beaumont lawyer John Morgan filed against his former wife’s lawyer. On Oct. 29, the judges held that the Texas Citizen’s Participation Act protected Houston lawyer Sheryl Johnson-Todd from Morgan’s suit. A suit brought by Michael Stelly, who claims he stepped onto a gangway that gave way and nearly tossed him into the water after finishing his barge inspection, was recently brought up for trial but instead has been ordered to mediation. On March 4, 2013, Stelly filed suit against OilTanking of Beaumont, Amspec Services and Harley Marine in Jefferson County district Court. The case was slated to go to trial on Oct. 5.

The Jefferson County Bar Association Foundation has announced that June 1 will be the date of the eighth annual Spindletop Spin bicycle ride. The event begins at the Crockett Street Entertainment District in downtown Beaumont, and will offer 100-mile, 53-mile, 27-mile and 16-mile tours for a registration fee of $30.
