SAN ANTONIO – Not even six months into his partnership with Martin Phipps and apparently T.J. Mayes is out, calling Phipps a “crook” and a “serial abuser of women” on Twitter.
Back in October, The Record reported Phipps started a new firm with Mayes, the former chief of staff for Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolf.
Phipps is one of the attorneys representing Bexar County in its opioid lawsuit.
And although the website for the Phipps Mayes law firm is still active and currently lists Mayes a partner, Mayes apparently hasn’t been a part of the firm since Jan. 11.
“I resigned from the Phipps firm on 1/11 after I became convinced without a shred of doubt that Martin Phipps is a crook and a serial abuser of women,” Mayes Tweeted. “I turned over appropriate documents to the relevant regulatory agencies.”

The Record has also extensively reported on a sealed lawsuit Phipps brought against former employees of his.
On April 12, 2018, The Record reported on a $100,000 donation Phipps made to former Bexar County District Attorney Nico LaHood – the man who hired Phipps and three other firms to represent the county in its opioid lawsuit.
