A severe workplace accident has led to a lawsuit seeking over $1 million in damages. On July 31, 2024, Aaron Velazquez filed a complaint in Harris County District Court against Danish Fields Solar, LLC.
According to the filing, Velazquez was working at the Danish Fields project in Danevang, Texas, in April 2024 when he came into contact with a 4500-volt wire. This incident resulted in severe injuries, including third-degree burns to his hands, chest, and thighs. The plaintiff asserts that Danish Fields Solar's negligence directly caused these injuries. The lawsuit details multiple accusations of negligence against the defendant. These include failing to properly maintain equipment, inadequate training and safety measures, and insufficient supervision and monitoring of work conditions. "Defendant breached their duty by failing to provide Plaintiff with a safe place to work," the complaint states.
The plaintiff also invokes the legal principle of respondeat superior, holding Danish Fields Solar vicariously liable for the actions of its employees or agents during their employment. Additionally, Velazquez accuses the company of premises liability for not maintaining a safe environment for invitees like himself.
The complaint further alleges gross negligence on the part of Danish Fields Solar. It claims that the company's actions involved an extreme degree of risk and danger and that they proceeded with conscious indifference to Velazquez's safety. "Defendant’s conduct was reckless and done with an intentional state of mind," it reads.
Velazquez is seeking compensation for various damages including past and future mental anguish, physical pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost wages or earning capacity, loss of enjoyment of life, disfigurement and scarring, as well as costs related to the suit itself. He is also requesting punitive or exemplary damages due to what he describes as gross negligence by Danish Fields Solar.
Representing Velazquez are attorneys Muhammad S. Aziz from Abraham Watkins Nichols Agosto Aziz & Stogner and Bilaal Badat from another law firm. The case has been assigned Case ID 2024-48624 in Harris County District Court under Judge Monica Jackson.
