A former employee is taking legal action against a healthcare facility, alleging negligence that led to significant injuries. Lakisha Raheem-Mohammed filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, on September 11, 2024, against City Park Care Center, LLC, doing business as Terra Bella Health and Wellness Suites.

According to the court documents, Raheem-Mohammed was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Terra Bella. On October 27, 2023, while performing her duties of emptying a catheter bag that had been overfilled by a co-worker who failed to empty it earlier, some of the bag's contents splashed into her eye. This incident resulted in severe physical injuries for Raheem-Mohammed, including ongoing pain and loss of vision in her eye.

Raheem-Mohammed accuses Terra Bella of failing to provide a safe working environment and proper training and supervision. She claims that the company did not enforce necessary safety protocols or ensure that competent employees were handling tasks correctly. Specifically, she alleges that Terra Bella neglected to provide essential safety equipment like eye shields and failed to supervise adequately or assist her during the task.

The plaintiff is seeking monetary relief ranging from $250,000 to $1 million for various damages such as past and future physical pain, mental anguish, medical expenses both incurred and anticipated in the future, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, and disfigurement. The lawsuit also highlights that Terra Bella was not subscribed to workers' compensation insurance at the time of the incident. Consequently, Raheem-Mohammed argues that Terra Bella has waived several potential defenses typically available under Texas law.

Represented by attorneys Dean Malone and Michael T. O'Connor from the Law Offices of Dean Malone P.C., Raheem-Mohammed demands a jury trial for this case. The case is being presided over by Judge Jonathan Vel in Harris County's 234th Judicial District Court under Case ID 2024-61403.
