Debra Stokes has filed a compelling lawsuit against a healthcare facility, alleging negligence and seeking justice for the untimely death of her mother, Janet Rogers. The complaint was filed on November 21, 2024, in the Harris County District Court against HMG Healthcare, LLC, doing business as Park Manor Westchase.

The case revolves around the alleged mistreatment and neglect of Janet Rogers during her stay at Park Manor Westchase. Debra Stokes, acting individually and on behalf of her late mother's estate, accuses the healthcare provider of failing to provide adequate care for Rogers' known medical conditions. According to the petition, Rogers was admitted to the facility on October 24, 2023, with several health issues including cognitive communication development problems, COPD, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and anemia. Despite these conditions being well-documented upon admission, Stokes claims that the facility failed to implement necessary care plans to prevent further health deterioration.

Stokes asserts that despite assurances from Park Manor Westchase about their capability to manage her mother's conditions effectively, the facility's negligence led to a series of medical complications. These included urinary tract infections and severe pressure ulcers that escalated from stage II to stage III within weeks. Additionally, significant weight loss was reported during Rogers' stay at the facility—an alarming drop from 150 pounds in February 2024 to just over 132 pounds by March.

The lawsuit highlights multiple instances where Park Manor Westchase allegedly breached its duty of care. It accuses the defendant of neglecting essential nursing duties such as monitoring and preventing pressure ulcers and malnutrition. Furthermore, it is claimed that inadequate staffing levels contributed significantly to these failures in care. The complaint also suggests that systemic issues within HMG Healthcare's operational practices may have prioritized financial considerations over patient welfare.

In seeking redress from the court, Debra Stokes requests both economic and non-economic damages exceeding jurisdictional limits for past and future physical pain suffered by her mother due to negligence. She also seeks compensation for mental anguish endured by Rogers before her death on May 24th as well as funeral expenses incurred thereafter.
